Glass Kakaruwai/South Island Robin Suncatcher v.2
Product details:
Handmade suncatcher using the Tiffany (copperfoil) method. Each bird is unique, with a very slightly different cut of glass!
NZ native kakaruwai/South Island robin in prismatic translucent grey, opaque white/yellow, and black glass, with wire legs and a secure hanging loop.
Measures 15cm in length, and 8cm in width. Hanging length is adjustable and comes with 17cm brown suede cord.
Packaged with recycled materials to avoid generating unnecessary waste! Can be shipped within NZ and worldwide.
The inspiration:
The kakaruwai/South Island robin is endemic to NZ, mostly spotted foraging for invertebrates on the ground and curiously monitoring human visitors in mature forest and scrub habitats. Today, the robins' main threat is predation by introduced mammalian predators such as stoats, possums, feral cats, and ship rats; predators eliminate the young and nesting females, causing a male-biased population to result.
Care:
- Made with materials that contain lead. The risk is minimal, but as a precaution wash hands after handling to avoid ingesting particles.
- Best kept inside for longevity.
