The inspiration:
The pīwakawaka/fantail is one of the few native birds that has been able to adapt to the widespread human environmental impacts within Aotearoa, and as a result is one of the most widely distributed native birds in the country. This endemic bird is known for its endearing 'cheet cheet' call and chattering, beautiful fanned tail feathers, and friendly flitting. The pīwakawaka feeds on insects, and its broad fanned tail allows it to change directions quickly while hunting them. They will often follow humans, birds and other animals around in the bush, snapping up the insects that are disturbed by treading through leaf litter and undergrowth.

Care:
- Made with materials that contain lead. The risk is minimal, but as a precaution wash hands after handling to avoid ingesting particles.
- Best kept inside for longevity.
