I have been painting and creating one way or another for my entire life. I live in beautiful Central Otago and love exploring the region with my family and friends, I find the dramatic landscapes, moody skyscapes and changing seasons inspiring for making my art. My eye is drawn to lines, contours, wind currents, clouds formations, water races, fence lines, ridge lines and shadows in these beautiful places we visit.
I paint mainly with acrylic paints integrating other media such as pastel, pencils, pens, charcoal, inks and dyes. I like to experiment with tools other than brushes for my mark making (sticks, leaves, feathers, grass, forks) anything that makes an interesting mark, shape or texture.
By using these techniques I try to create loose expressive abstract landscapes that represent a time, an adventure, a moment, a feeling, an atmospheric mood….
Along with the painting, I am currently enjoying working with mixed media collage techniques, developing ideas and using botanical pen doodlings from my work books from over the years.
My process is organic, I’m never sure how the finished work is going to develop, which makes this an exciting, creative and a rewarding practice.
