Shy Boy's fleece - silvery grey romney hogget fleece

Shy Boy is a purebred romney and is going to be our stud ram when he grows up. This is probably the last fleece from him that will be available - soon enough his hormones will kick in and his wool will get stinky but right now he's just a teenager and there's no odour. He's a silvery grey in colour and will fade as he ages. You can see in the picture that there's a little variegation in the wool, which will create a pretty marled effect in finished products or can be carded to homogenise it.

Shy Boy's fleece was tested this winter and found to be 29.7 microns - very fine for a romney - with very good consistency across the fleece and a very well-formed crimp. This fleece won a second placing in Wairarapa A&P show in November this year. Expected yield from this fleece would be 81%. The staple length averages 10cm so could be used for worsted, semi-worsted, or woollen spinning.
