Handmade suncatcher using the Tiffany (copperfoil) method.
NZ native kōtare/sacred kingfisher in teal, dusky blue, brown/beige, black and iridescent white glass, with a wire leg and a secure hanging loop. Detailed with copper foil overlay, paint, and beading techniques for texture.
Measures 12cm in length, and 14cm in width. Hanging length is 19cm with brown leather cord.
Packaged with recycled materials to avoid generating unnecessary waste! Can be shipped within NZ and worldwide. Courier is used to ensure your new glassy friend arrives intact.
The inspiration:
The kōtare dwells near waterways - often spotted perching from tree branches, fence posts or power lines, ready to swoop in a nab unsuspecting aquatic & terrestrial invertebrates. They are efficient and lightening quick as the forage, and can be observed in many parts of Ōtautahi/Christchurch.
Care:
- Made with materials that contain lead. The risk is minimal, but as a precaution wash hands after handling to avoid ingesting particles.
- Best kept inside for longevity.
