Tui Linocut in kahurangi/blue
This is a linocut is of the Tui, a boisterous and beautiful bird of Aotearoa with iridescent black, blue, green and brown feathers and striking white tuffs at it's throat. Here the Tui is surrounded by the native Kōtukutuku – tree fuchsia, which is favoured by the Tui, a honey-eating bird.
I carved my design onto a lino block then inked and printed it using my RGM Etching Press. As each print is inked by hand then rolled through the press each one is slightly different. Here I have used a kahurangi/blue waterbased ink mixed with a little silver ink for a light sheen. The fine art paper is handmade by the Awagami Factory. The size of the linocut is 15.5cm high by 20cm wide and the size of the paper is 20cm high x 25cm wide making it easy to source a ready made frame.
