NZ Harakeke - Silk Scarf
The scarf is made from 2 layers of medium Habotai silk.
It is sewn so there are no visible edges, which gives the scarf a neat finish.
Size 22 x 160 cm
The batik uses a resist technique which is drawn on with a pipette.
The wax is then fixed into the fabric before the non-toxic dyes are individually hand-painted.
Salt is then sprinkled onto the still damp fabric.
The salt draws moisture to itself, creating unique patterns.
Once dried, the scarf is steam-fixed to create strong, vibrant and permanent colours.
Care: Hand-washing using wool-wash in lukewarm water,
rinse in a small amount of fabric softener or vinegar, (optional).
Spin in washing machine or or air dry. Iron using a silk/wool setting.
