Heuristic Play Set – Indigo Star

These heuristic play sets have been designed to inspire spontaneous play and open ended discovery in the developing child, through the freedom of exploring everyday objects.

Only natural (and mostly raw) materials have been used, as these are gentle on the senses and they nourish a connection to the natural world as well as a sense of belonging.

Let your child learn through touch and feel, they can explore the relationship between objects and the limits of their curiosity and imagination.

The cloth bag and play silk have been naturally dyed and the wood is all natural and unfinished, making for a set which is both gentle for our babies and gentle to our earth too.

Supervised play is recommended.

MORE ABOUT THE WOODEN ELEMENTS:
Most of the wooden elements included in this set (rattle, blocks & button) have been made by hand on the Kāpiti coast by ‘Heirloom Woodturning’.

MORE ABOUT THE INCLUDED PLAY SILK:
These petite play-silks, made from silk chiffon are beautifully light and semi-transparent. A true sensory delight.
Paired with a beech wood ring they are the perfect toy for a younger child or baby. The play-silk is also detachable from the ring allowing for further imaginative play opportunities.

EACH HEURISTIC PLAY SET CONTAINS:
A naturally dyed petite play silk (approx 60 x 60cm) on a beech wood ring
A wooden rattle
A square wooden block
A cylindrical wooden block
A large wooden button
A wooden peg
A piece of dried Egyptian cucumber (also known as a loofah)
A naturally dyed cloth bag
You may notice some variations in the depth of colour on your play-silk, this is due to the nature of natural dyes, you may find some areas are more saturated than others. I like to think this sets the product apart from it’s synthetically dyed counterparts – and in our studio we believe strongly in embracing serendipity.

CARING FOR YOUR NATURALLY DYED PLAY-SILK
Gently hand wash in lukewarm water using a mild detergent and cool iron. Please do not dry clean as the chemicals used will destroy the dyes. Botanically dyed textiles, like all fabrics, will fade over time if left in direct sunlight. Natural dyes are sensitive to citric acids (found in lemons, grapefruit, oranges, tomatoes etc) which will ‘bleach’ the fibres.

Please note actual colours may vary. It’s important to note that they may look different on a real product than what you see on your computer monitor. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours and that everyone sees these colours differently. We try to edit our photos to show the products as life-like as possible, but please understand the actual colour may vary slightly from your monitor.
