Monarch butterfly wing pendant - fused glass

The monarch butterfly is NZ's most identifiable butterfly and this stunning pendant has been created to replicate the colour and vibrancy of a traditional monarch butterfly wing.

This item has been handcrafted from glass and fired to over 760C in my kiln. The process fuses the glass layers together, creating kiln formed glass. The metallic sheen on the surface of this pendant is dichroic glass. The term ‘Dichroic‘ is derived from the Greek language and literally means ‘two colours’. Simply put, this means if you hold a piece of dichroic coated glass and look straight through it you will see different colours than you will see if you look at the dichroic glass at an angle.

Light and easy to wear, this pendant is designed to be elegant and dainty. I deliberately use very thin 2mm glass to ensure the pendant will be light weight and comfortable to wear,

Each pendant is individually made, so your necklace will be truly one of a kind. Due to it's handmade nature, your jewellery may have small imperfections and irregularities. This is perfectly normal and should in no way affect the function or life of your item.
