Kono - four sided basket - traditional Māori weaving
NZ $40.00
Available here is a kono, one of the most fundamental forms of mahi raranga - traditional Māori weaving. This basket is woven by Joy Andersen (Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga, Ngāti Kapu) whose expertise includes kono, kete, and meticulously made kākahu and korowai.
These kono have been produced as gift baskets and are approximately 15cm x 15cm. These are appropriate for use in your kitchen or living spaces as well as gifting.
The harakeke (NZ flax) comes from a pā harakeke (Flax cultivation) in Foxton, where many of the best varieties of flax were transplanted from around the country in the 1800s to supply the flax milling industry.
