Repurposed Milk Bottle Kowhai Flower Earrings in Eco Silver
True sustainable elegance! Hand cut and etched from repurposed plastic milk bottles, these stunning Kowhai flower earrings are possibly my favourite, and an easy wear option for any occasion. They are a beautiful translucent white, due to the base milk bottle plastic material they are upcycled from.
The Kowhai tree has been used as an icon for generations, and holds unofficial status as our national flower. It is renowned for its bright yellow flowers in spring, whose nectar attracts our native birds the Tui and Kereru (native wood pigeon).
I have created these Kowhai flower earrings by cutting out a shape from the tubed handle of a milk bottle, and attaching two hammer-hardened ‘stamens’, before securing them to nickel free, handmade eco silver hooks.
They measure 5.5cm (2.2″) from the top of the hook to the bottom of the stamens, and are up to 2cm (0.75″) at the widest point.
Perfect for the eco-aware individual, they will make a sustainably elegant gift, or treasure to keep!
The price includes free delivery within NZ. :)
My aim for this collection, was to:
- Reduce waste (or remove it from the waste cycle), and
- Reuse a product, by
- Repurposing it into something new
The outcome is this R3 collection! All of the earrings available in this selection were inspired by nature, are up cycled using NZ plastic milk bottles, and – ultimately - reduce plastic waste!
Each pair of repurposed milk bottle earrings are attached to handmade earring hooks crafted from 100% recycled Sterling Silver, nickel free wire in my garden-outlook, solar powered, Titirangi home studio.
I also donate 10% of my profit to Forest & Bird. :D
As with all handmade items, each piece will vary slightly in style and composition - this is not seen as a fault. What you see above is an example of what you will receive.
All Curlicue NZ jewellery items are handmade to order, therefore please allow 2-5 working days from order to shipping, to enable the creation of your piece.
It is also important to note that wire jewellery can sometimes get caught up on clothing and be pulled out of shape. In order to avoid this from happening, it is better to put them on after you've put on your clothing and done your hair.
Your purchase from Curlicue NZ Jewellery will come lovingly and sustainably wrapped, ready to give or be kept as a treasure for yourself. Please let me know if you'd like a free gift tag (room for To/From + a 2-3 word handwritten message.)
If your purchase is a special gift for someone - you might like to consider my premium gift wrapping option - which includes a gorgeous mini kete (woven flax) bag. Available as an additional item in my Felt shop.
The whole gift item is then wrapped in reused bubble wrap to ensure its safety in transit.
Thank you for visiting Curlicue NZ :)
