Original Handcoloured Woodcut

This original woodcut is made by printing a hand-carved woodblock on to creamy handmade paper.
The textured paper is made from New Zealand flax, also known as harakeke.
The woodblock is inked up with oil-based ink using a hand roller or brayer.
I use my own hand-operated printing press and once printed, I hand-colour the woodcut with watercolour making every print a unique and original work of art.
The woodcut is signed by the artist as an open edition on the mat board below and titled “Pīwakawaka”. It features the New Zealand pīwakawaka or fantail which is a small forest-dwelling bird that is a very agile aerial hunter, feeding on small insects.
The woodcut is professionally float-mounted onto white archival mat board and is ready to be placed straight into a standard 8x10" frame of your choice. (Please note that the frame is not included.)
The size of the flax paper measures 125 x 180mm and the matted print measures 202 x 254mm.
