This tomato is ugly but delicious! A Russian heirloom with large beefsteak-type fruit. Dark purple, rich-tasting flesh. Distinctive green gel around the seeds.
Start tomato seeds indoors in seed trays in late winter or spring and bring them on in pots until the last frost has passed. Harden off carefully for a few days before planting outdoors or in a glasshouse.
Indeterminate tomatoes need support as they grow and their laterals pinched out, encouraging a cordon-style growth. After the fruit starts forming thin the lower leaves to assist ventilation.
Open pollinated - some variation possible.
