Shaggy Root earrings: creamy howlite beads with brown glass pearls and leafy bronze caps
NZ $19.00
Semiprecious howlite beads with brown veining are nested in leafy, antiqued-bronze coloured bead-caps, and flanked by chocolate-brown faux pearls.
These earrings, with their layered bead-caps and earthy colour scheme, remind me of shaggy tree-roots and old, unsprouted plant bulbs.
Howlite was discovered at Tick Canyon, California in 1868 by Henry How (1828-1879), a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. The howlite beads in these earrings are round and cream-coloured, with light brown veining which gives them an aged, cracked look.
They are wire-wrapped, with little, metallic chocolate-coloured glass pearls above and below beneath the bead-caps, and dangle from arched, brass based, antiqued-bronze coloured ear-wires.
The 'Shaggy Root' earrings measure 59mm from top to bottom. From the bottom of the ear-wires, the rooty drops measure 29mm in height, including the wire-wrapping.
