Elegant, elongated and with an underlying ghostly tinge, ‘Gilt and Envy’ uses wallpaper liberated from an abandoned house, encrusted in dust and memories, to conjure an apparition from a lost era.

The lonely occupant of a once opulent room, she sits for her portrait amongst the fake gold and faded greens, recalling a time when everything was real.

The original work combines wallpaper, pencil, acrylic and spraypaint, layering patterns and surfaces, to form an image that is refined, poised and yet emotionally remote.

I like my beauty sad and my colours muted, and in this work both are used to echo the mournful quality of a grand mansion left to decay.

All my works are printed on Epson Watercolour art paper using archival quality inks - and of course the watermark you see onscreen does not appear on the print itself. Each print is individually hand-signed and numbered, and comes with its very own certificate of authenticity. The gold detailing on 'Gilt and Envy' is painted on by hand with gilding wax.

Your print will be unframed, packaged in a cardboard mailing tube and sent via New Zealand Post, which takes 1-2 days for South Island postage and 1-3 days for North Island. I'll mail the package within 3 working days of your payment clearing.
