Asymmetrical Kyanite earrings #2: rustic, light blue semiprecious stones with sterling silver filled hooks

These wantonly asymmetrical earrings feature little spears or stick-like drops of kyanite, wire-wrapped and suspended from long, elegant, silver-filled hooks.
Kyanite is a semiprecious gemstone whose name comes from 'kuanos', the Greek word for 'deep blue' – the word 'cyan' comes from the same Greek root. These kyanite beads vary between grey and blue, with flashes of pearly, iridescent blue and grey, flecks and streaks of black, and even a little sparkle of silver, like glitter caught in the stones. One is longer and has more grey and black; the other is mostly watery blue, with deep blue at its base.
The markings and colouration of the stones varies from side to side, as is shown in the photographs. The kyanite is translucent, so the shade of blue varies with the light. They are at their best in daylight. The subtleties of semiprecious stones are very difficult to capture in photographs: these earrings are much lovelier than the photographs show.
The kyanite drops are wire-wrapped with non-tarnish, silver coloured, artistic wire, and hang from sterling silver filled ear-hooks. 'Silver filled' means that the core of the component is covered with a thick layer of silver – much thicker than silver plate. These silver-filled ear hooks are copper based, look like sterling silver to the naked eye, and will wear much better than silver plated hooks would. They are stamped "925/10SF", which means that the outer ten percent of the hook consists of .925 silver (sterling silver). They have an anti-tarnish coating to preserve their shine for even longer.

This is pair #2 of the 'Asymmetrical Kyanite' earrings. One earring measures 45mm from top to bottom, and the kyanite drop is 6mm across at its widest point. The other earring measures 50mm, and the kyanite drop is 6mm across.
The earrings come with little plastic stoppers that can be slid onto the hooks to prevent them from working their way out of your ears.
